Some tribes leaders living in Lungbungzang, Lakhichera, Cachar, Assam, Jiribam, Manipur and Tamenglong district Manipur came together and decided to established development organization to take up various development initiatives by the people. The 28 leaders from Rongmei, Riang, Hmar and Kuki formed People’s Action for Comprehensive Rural Development (PAFCORD) in 05 August 1995 with its head office at Lungbungzang village. It was modified as Peoples Endeavour for Social Changes (PESCH) and registered under Society Act 1989 with its address at church road Tamenglong Headquarter, Tamenglong district, Manipur – 795141. PESCH have liaison office at Kamranga, PO & PS-Gularthol Jiribam 795115.

A resilient and self-reliant society in Northeast India where tribal and marginalized communities live with dignity, harmony and environmental responsibility empowered through local institutions, enriched by their cultural heritage and engaged in sustainable livelihoods and community-led development.

Mission

PESCH’s mission is to transform the lives of tribal and marginalized communities in Assam and Manipur through a holistic, participatory approach. We strengthen grassroots leadership, revive climate resilient livelihoods, promote value based education, and preserve indigenous knowledge. We support natural resource management and climate action through community-led conservation. We empower women and youth by building skills for entrepreneurship, enhancing income through value addition, and promoting active participation in SHGs, FPOs, and local governance. Our work fosters peace, justice, equity, and collective action for sustainable development and self-reliance across rural and tribal communities.

Objective

  • To strengthen local institutions and community leadership Facilitate inclusive, democratic, and accountable village governance structures.Promote inter- and intra community dialogue for peacebuilding and conflict resolution.Build the leadership capacities of youth, women, and traditional leaders for community mobilization and collective action.

  • To revive and diversify climate-resilient livelihoods Promote traditional and indigenous farming systems such as kitchen gardens, SALT, and mixed orchard cultivation. Establish livestock banks and community-level beekeeping units to enhance food security and household income.Encourage agroecological practices that ensure sustainability and resilience to climate change.

  • To promote value-based and inclusive education Improve access to quality primary and upper primary education in remote tribal areas.Strengthen ICDS centers and capacity-building of Anganwadi and ASHA workers.Establish village libraries and learning spaces for children and youth.Document and integrate indigenous knowledge systems into local education programs.

  • To enhance natural resource management and climate action Promote community-led conservation of forests and biodiversity. Support sustainable alternatives to shifting cultivation through afforestation and agro-ecotourism. Mobilize communities for tree plantation drives and watershed development to contribute to SDG climate goals. Advocate for inclusive environmental governance and community rights in conservation policy.

  • To develop skills and entrepreneurship among youth and women Organize need-based vocational trainings in value addition, processing, and packaging of local products. Create market linkages for forest-based products such as medicinal plants, cane, bamboo, hill brooms, and Sugandhmantri.
